Mandeville, LA- Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. (“CGB”), a leader in the grain and transportation industries since 1969, is pleased to announce the development of a new organic-specific grain and oilseed business. CGB is currently purchasing organic crops into two facilities with additional locations expected to be announced in the future.

“Organic production in the northern plains is growing and the need for readily accessible markets is becoming more and more important. Our goal is to provide producers with an efficient and reliable option to market organic crops. Initially, we will be dealing mainly in feed commodities, but we expect to establish a robust food program as well in order to further expand the available marketing options to growers,” said Sean Treasure, Organic Trader, CGB.

The certification of facilities in Gladstone and Naples, Illinois provides organic farmers in those areas access to major organic feed destinations in both California and Pennsylvania. Additionally, these elevators will provide quick unloading to inbound trucks, saving our customers both time and money.

“We have a diverse suite of businesses within the CGB family that are committed to integrity and transparency, and we look forward to connecting producers with additional, service-oriented experts in both crop insurance and finance,” said Matt Nidlinger, Market Development, CGB.

CGB has an extensive history in handling identity preserved grains and is well suited to enter the organic market; CGB Organic Grains will follow all standards created by the USDA through the National Organic Program. The new organic team will be based out of St. Louis, MO.
